Expert tips for YouTube Part 1

Are you posting videos to YouTube? And are you getting any hits? If the number of visitors is a little disappointing: don’t despair! There are dozens of little things you can do to optimize your video and making the most out of it.

Some tips are real easy and others will be more advanced. But the objective is to get a better experience and maximize the number of viewers.

In a series of blog posts I recapitulate these important tips and tricks. Today part 1.

YouTube video tips:

  1. Always upload the best quality and highest resolution you have. YouTube will do the rest (down converting to all the needed formats)
  2. Always give your video a smashing and catchy title
  3. Always write a good description of your video, make it short & concise, use important keywords
  4. Don't use music or graphics you don't have the rights to
  5. Fill in a whole bunch of keywords to make your video findable
  6. Start your video with 1 second black to avoid starting issues and stuttering at the beginning
  7. Make your intro never longer than 20 second
  8. Get your main message across in the first minute
  9. While rendering your video out for YouTube, add a few percent sharpening
  10. During shooting avoid hefty panning and tilting, thus keeping the average bitrate happy (nasty artefacts can appear during lots of visible motion)
